I am preparing to leave Vietnam after three years of residence here. While in Asia I have been to nine countries, eaten over three thousand meals, backpacked through Italy, and become a teacher, a writer, and a filmmaker. Saigon, in no uncertain terms, has been my home and, as such, the source of everything that one finds associated. I can imagine that leaving it will not be unlike the process of leaving all of the other homes I have been lucky enough to have over the course of my life. During the next couple of months I would like to record this process of leaving one home and travelling back to another, saying goodbye and returning.

That is all.
“I do think it’s a worthwhile goal not to conflate our political opponents with enemies, if for no other reason to draw a better distinction between the manifestos of paranoid madmen and what passes for acceptable political and pundit speak. You know, it would be really nice if the ramblings of crazy people didn’t in anyway resemble how we actually talk to each other on TV.”
Found myself in Italy over the summer with Bicycle Diaries by David Byrne in one hand and Nick Cave’s Bunny Munroe in the other. Two of my favorite musicians with only enough room in my pack for one of them. I stuck with Cave’s shorter, “pulpier” piece due to my condition as backpacker, rail rider but it was not an easy decision. These excerpt from Byrne’s Diaries make me question it further while renewing my hope to rectify it in the future with a purchase.
My wireless router was murdered by a power surge last night. I’m on a mission to find a replacement and seek justice. Farewell old friend. We had some great times together.
Yes, even Avatar.
