IgnatzCat: Catchall

A blog for the ages. And other stuff.
Ask me anything

Celebrating the sale by exploring some of the overlooked gems that slipped through Lucas’s dead, spidery fingers.

Heard this was good. Will update with my opinion.

First thoughts: guarded skepticism.

UPDATE: So… it’s not bad!

Bad first. Samurai Jack is one of my favorite cartoons of all time and, unfortunately, the first episode played like my least favorite episodes of Jack; all action, light plot, no character development. While this had the arbitrary “disobedient Anakin” thing going on, I wouldn’t call that character development since we all know how that story line turns out. I was hoping for a little more focus on the other Jedi, basically everyone we see get killed in Episode III who you don’t know anything about (unless you read the books, but you know…come on). There’s a little of this, including some female Jedi who actually do more than pose with a lightsaber! But there was maybe five minutes of dialogue in an hour long episode. I don’t know, I guess it’s for kids? And kids hate talking? Anyway, if you like lasers you’re going to love this.

What did I like? A lot! There are some moments in here that are some of the best action sequences I’ve ever seen (Mace Windu versus planet crusher thing? What! Whaaaat!) And some genuinely tense moments where I felt worried about what was going to happen next. Can’t think of a single moment in Episodes I-III where I can say that. Maybe right after they introduced Jar Jar? Does that count?

So action is A+, plot is C-. Yeah, I know it’s a subplot of Prequel Star Wars Garbage. And a cartoon. Ostensibly for children. I guess the potential is there to explore some more of the interesting lore that Lucas either ignored or didn’t feel was a interesting as people sitting on couches and talking at each other. (Actually, maybe that’s why there’s so little talking in this?)

Looking forward to the rest!
